Was Trump wrong to engage in Conversation with the President of Taiwan? The Anti TRUMP group have raised an issue with Trumps recent conversation with Taiwan’s President; the leader of a Democracy, an Allied, Trading Partner and buyer of US Defensive Military Arms. They are arguing that the call was “SUBSTANTIAL” ? Since the recognition of the PRC, the “Taiwan Relations Act” has defined “SUBSTANTIAL” but non-diplomatic relations between the US and Taiwan. Both chambers of U.S. Congress reaffirmed the importance of the Taiwan Relations Act repeatedly. Thus the call was not one that violated or altered anything. It was a “SUBSTANTIAL” call by the President Of Taiwan to President Elect Trump.

2016 RNC Platform states “Our relations will continue to be based upon the provisions of the Taiwan Relations Act and it’s Six Assurances [1982 President Reagan]. “Taiwan merits strong support, free trade and timely sale of defensive arms including technology to build diesel submarines”. We sell Taiwan Defensive Military Equipment by the Billions. Yet we see people now crying OMG! Over a simple conversation when one day before Tsai Ing-wen assumed the presidency of Taiwan [2016], Senator Marco Rubio and Bob Menendez introduced a concurrent resolution reaffirming the Taiwan Relations Act and the “Six Assurances” as cornerstones of United States–Taiwan relations. China is a nation that lacks Free Press, arrests it’s citizens for any effort to dissent, and a legal system that denies it’s people rights –especially Religious Organizations. Yet many of our Citizens, including those closely associated with Religious Groups and Denominations, continue to make haste to conduct business with the PRC. And, while hundreds of Chinese are buying up real estate and business’s in the US, a citizen of the US discovers that the PRC does not offer such abilities in kind!

China has various rules and regulations designed to make it difficult for foreigners to directly control businesses there.

brief Taiwan history:

China points to history when ever confronted:

Before 17th Cent, Taiwan was inhabited by Taiwanese aborigines. Dutch and Spanish colonized the island with Han Chinese immigration. The island was annexed by the Qing dynasty, the last dynasty of China. The Qing ceded Taiwan to Japan in 1895. While under Japanese rule, the Republic of China was established on the mainland. Following the Japanese surrender, the ROC took control of Taiwan.

The Chinese Civil War led to the ROC’s loss of the mainland to the Communists, and the flight of the ROC government to Taiwan in 1949.The United States expected that Taiwan would fall to the Communists. In 1950 the conflict between North Korea and South Korea escalated into full-blown war and US President Harry S. Truman sent the 7th Fleet into the Taiwan Strait to prevent hostilities between Taiwan and mainland China– recognizing the separation of the mainland and that of Taiwan

Today, Taiwan has it’s own constitution, elected president and armed forces, continues to view itself as a sovereign state never controlled by the PRC. Of the Taiwanese aged 20 and older, 64% opt for the status quo, 19% favored independence and only 5% favored “unification”. China claims the government of Taiwan illegitimate.
